金沙娱乐城 College Receives $360,000 CCAMPIS Grant

金沙娱乐城 College has been selected by the U.S. Department of Education to receive a Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant. The grant, which will provide $90,000 a year for four years, will help offset the costs of on-campus child care for undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need.

"Research demonstrates that students who are parents are more likely to complete their degrees when they have access to affordable, quality child care,” said Jodi Eastberg, PhD, acting vice president for Academic Affairs at 金沙娱乐城 College and the CCAMPIS project director. “This grant will offer qualified students the financial relief they need to expand their access to 金沙娱乐城’s five-star rated Early Learning Center.”

The program will increase both the number of low-income student parents served by 金沙娱乐城’s Early Learning Center as well as the amount of childcare need met for each student parent, with the goal of serving 20 to 30 new student parents. Combined with wrap-around services and student parent engagement activities, the additional available childcare hours provided by this grant will allow students to complete more credits each semester, narrowing the gap for completion rates between parents and non-parents.

金沙娱乐城’s Early Learning Center serves up to 122 children ages six weeks through six years. It is state licensed, nationally accredited and holds the highest five-star rating by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families’ YoungStar program. 金沙娱乐城 student parents receive priority enrollment, and their rates are discounted on a sliding scale based on the number of hours used and the age of the child.

All Pell-eligible undergraduate student parents enrolled at the college qualify for the funding. Graduate students whose expected family contribution (EFC) meets the Pell-eligibility requirements may also qualify. 金沙娱乐城 students who are interested in receiving CCAMPIS funds for child care provided at 金沙娱乐城’s Early Learning Center should reach out to the 金沙娱乐城 Financial Aid Office or 金沙娱乐城’s Early Learning Center to complete an application upon which final selection will be based.

This program supports the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education through the provision of campus-based child care services. Funds are used to support or establish campus-based child care programs primarily serving the needs of low-income students enrolled in institutions of higher education.
